Things have been really busy down here in Tasmania, trying to stay dry and warm, for a start, the daffodils in my front yard are telling me spring is on the way but i'm not convinced! There's been some dyeing and spinning, and a bit of knitting thrown in. We are off on a family holiday to sunny Queensland in 2 weeks which will be very exciting, unfortunatly it means I won't be at the spring Beach Market but on balance, what would you say if you were offered a week off??
Soon after our return the 2nd Tassie Stitchers retreat is on, closely followed by a demonstration at the local handweavers, spinners and dyers guild that we've been asked to do. I've started making my christmas knitting plans, and of course purchasing the required goodies.
On top of all that I am now trying to round up generous crafty people to sew or crochet together blankets for Hobarts' homeless. Literally hundreds of lovely knitted squares have been donated and are currently residing at Tasmanian Wool Suppliers in Moonah. I am trying to get a team together to have a sit-in one afternoon in the shop, we'll have a lovely cosy afternoon of tea and cake, and get some blankets together. More details to folllow.
Please contact me either on Ravelry (Tasknitter) or by email lynnecarhart@hotmail.com to purchase anything.

Finally!
Well, finally I have an update ready. I have been so busy for the last couple of months, I have been getting back into a bit of work, which is great, but the associated organising is exhausting. I've been doing a bit of knitting and spinning, and Tasmanian Wool Suppliers in Moonah are now stocking "Tasknitterspins" and "The Bird and the Fish" handspun yarns and hand-dyed rovings in their store, which is really exciting. I've also just heard that I will be having a stall at the Spring Beach Market, which I'm really looking forward to. Then late last week my darling brother delivered the bump of 18 micron merino that Jo (Bird and the Fish) and I had been waiting for, the stars aligned, I had a night at home alone and the resulting carnival has been making our house look like a souk for most of the week. Anyway, now they are all dry and ready to go. Email me at lynnecarhart@hotmail.com or pm me on Ravelry (Tasknitter) if you'd like to adopt, spun or as rovings..

After the weekend comes Monday
My craft retreat was a big success and I've returned home refreshed and relaxed. I did heaps of dyeing, a bit of spinning, a bit of knitting, alot of chatting and eating. So much creative energy in one place can be pretty inspiring! My only regret is that I didn't have more rovings to dye up. All of these ones are 16 micron Lambswool, and $15 for 100 g, So delicous to spin, or contact me and I can spin them for you.
Postage $5 or express by arrangement

Retreat
Just the word retreat makes me feel calmer! Just roll it around in your mouth and see how it sounds... I am lucky enough to escape real life pretty regularly with a group of crafty friends, a full weekend, friday lunchtime till sunday afternoon, with nothing to do but knit, spin, eat, drink and chat! Each time I come back feeling relaxed and ready to eat the delicious sunday roast hubby always cooks. Anyway, this mini update is to clear the decks before a whole weekend of craftiness, I'm hoping to achieve great things to show you when I get back!!

Who'd have thought?
I had an update all ready to go, honest I did, I had some lovely yarns all photographed and loaded up, just waiting for me to arrange them artfully, then over the course of one weekend I had my monthly knitting meetup and a car boot sale. I wasn't going to take my wares to either, but for one reason and another I did, and came back almost empty handed! Who would have thought that the local primary school carpark would be home to so many prolific yarnies? Anyway, it's taken me a couple of weeks to restock, and I've had a new experience along the way, I've met, dyed and spun some lovely 16 micron Tassie Lambswool, which was like a bowlful of butter! Everytime I go past it begs to be touched!

Something a little brighter this week
Its cold cold cold down here in the south! I can't even see the mountain for clouds and the fire is well and truly going. Makes you want to knit doesn't it? I'm in the process of using a lovely handspun merino to knit a pinwheel style beret for my stall in June at the Beach Market in Blackmans Bay.
We all had our handknitted hats on yesterday, and if the forcasts are anything to go by they'll be in use quite alot over the next couple of weeks!

The thing that I love the most about spinning my own yarn is that you never quite know what is going to come off the wheel, and even then, the skein of yarn I produce isn't finished until it's made into something. I find the way the different colours play off each other fascinating, and watching them turn into a usable product is very satisfying.
Naming yarns is also something I enjoy, sometimes the name will come from the roving that was spun, my friend Phezz has a way with words and when I use her hand dyed rovings I like to retain a bit of the name. Other times the inspiration comes when I'm prepping the fibre or spinning it, or maybe just the mood I was in when I finished.
